BLOG ---------------  MID SEPTEMBER  2023

Well believe it or not, it is Papa Robb. Please accept my apology for the lack of communication this year. A crazy year to say the least. Also little if any special attractions. Crazy yes, but also challenging on several levels. Trying to finally get over & recover from all the ramifications of Covid. (sadly many did not recover).

Let's throw in some health issues along with weather that can only be called abnormal, unusual, etc. But THANKS to YOU loyal friends & customers we are still here.

However there are some important changes on the way for several reasons. Big number one is that this year, around October 1, we will enter our winter schedule earlier than in the past..

Starting October 1, we will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Cosed on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.  Hours: Open at 2:00 & close at 8:00. (when Daylight Savings Time ends in Nov. we will close at 7:00)

As in the past we expect to close for the year the end of November & reopen next year around the end of March.

NOTE: All of this is open for adjustments depending on circumstances.

Why & What's Up? you may ask. Age & health & family responsibilities. Papa will be 75 years old the end of December. I do not plan to hang up my helmet entirely, but I will not be on the field as much as in the past. I have a few health issues & they need to be looked into with more detail. Some of these go way back & a couple since late last year.

So I will spend some time during the last quarter of this year with some super doctors. Probing & poking; tests, procedures & discussions I feel sure.

So that's it. I am looking forward to my nineties when my youngest grand child steps out on her own. Papa Robb's Paradise Ice is not going away. Just slowing down a little earlier this year, plus our catering & mobile sales continue. A plug here: remember to visit us at the Wonderland event with the Multiply Church in December. Always a great time.

 BLOG - END OF YEAR PART 2 -- 2021

Let's begin Part 2 by reminding you to please read Part 1 of this blog & also to keep checking all our

social media posts & blogs through out the off season at Papa Robbs. Not only will we be keeping

you up to date on our plans for next year, but also on our winter mobile sales operations.

That all said  , another big Thank You for your help, ideas & support for this year. We continue - like

most small businesses  - to dig our way out of this ongoing Covid situation & we appreciate your

help more than ever.

This seems to be the perfect time to explain exactly what Papa Robb's Paradise Ice is all about: our

business philosophy so to speak. Our MISSION STATEMENT is: To serve quality products in a

safe, all inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere.  The key words here are: Safe, Inclusive, Family.

We are much more than just an ice cream, frozen treat store. We believe in being a part of our

community; Cabarrus & surrounding counties. children & families are the basis of our business.

Their - your - safety is our priority. Inclusive is really very simple also. All are welcome here as long

as you are polite, obey our rules & respect each other.

It has been a real deep pleasure to watch all of you come together at Papa Robbs. We are all very

proud of that family feeling. We have a rather sizable involvement with schools, churches, pre-

schools, daycares, etc. We are very proud of that, not because of what we do, but because of what

we have learned.

So thank you once again. We have some changes coming next year - hopefully a couple of big

changes - some new events, products & a return of some things from our history. Stay tuned this

winter for all the news.

Please be safe & enjoy the coming Holiday Season.

 BLOG END OF YEAR  2021

Hello again. This message will actually be a two-parter so let's get to part one. Our year is in its final days. While we will close for Thanksgiving we will be open Friday, Saturday & Sunday after -- our final day will be November 28.

This year has been much better than last year and better than we expected. We owe it all to you our loyal customers & friends. You simply kept coming in spite of the fact that part of our facility did not reopen due to a couple of "Covid Surges".  So thank you again.

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT OUR MOBILE SALES:  While our store will close for the winter our mobile carts & trucks will remain open all winter long. Mobile sales & catering will still roll up & down our county & neighboring ones also.

We have a full slate of high school basketball games on our plate as well as some church events. These will be posted on a weekly schedule so please stay on top of all our social media platforms.

We have both trucks & mobile carts to handle most events so if you have a birthday party or customer or employee appreciation event - please keep us in mind. Any event we can handle.

In closing thanks again for a successful season & we look forward to next year. With next year in mind note that we will have blog part 2 in about two weeks & it will concern next year with hopefully some big news.

Happy Thanksgiving.

BLOG --  Aug. 22, 2021:  SOME CHANGES ARE COMING
Hello again & I am sorry it has been so long , but we have been very busy this year & have faced some challenges -- some good & some not so good. Now some changes have arrived & there are more to come. So please pay attention & also be sure to keep checking our social media posts every day; sometimes more than once a day.

Let's start with some good news. This year has been much better than last year. Thanks to all of you for helping us survive last year as well as for your super support this year - both at our store & with our Mobile events.

But now we face a new Covid Surge -- and it is for real & serious. Viruses are living things & they too will fight to survive. They change & mutate into different forms. So we MUST fight back (more on this is a moment). We have already cancelled our extracurricular activities such as food & entertainment & reduced our weekend hours by one hour.

But we too have a shortage of help - especially since school begins. Three of our key people are in the education system. The result is that must reduce their hours at Papa Robb’s.

Therefore we have decided to implement our Fall hours of operation early. From mid-October to early September. Labor Day will be our final Monday for the year. Starting Tuesday, September 7 our new hours will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm - six days a week, closed on Mondays.

Allow me please to close on a more serious note. Once upon a time I lived a dream life. Not only did I work in the motorsports world, my company & its products were very successful. I was a happy man. Many of my heroes became my friends - some of the finest folks I have ever known. Sadly it was a dangerous time & we lost many good close friends. I miss them all to this day. But that time in my life gave me a deep respect for life & I do not want to lose any more friends.

So - preachy or not - PLEASE get that shot & wear that mask. A long long time ago we all had to "have our shots" before starting school. Things like measles, polio, chicken pox & a host of other deadly diseases -- well we don't worry about those anymore. Dangerous? Now I am 72 years old & I am still here. Thank God for vaccines. So please be safe & be healthy. We love seeing you at Papa Robbs.

 BLOG - Food - 6/17/21

This blog news is short, but very important. Important because it pertains to how much & how often entertainers & various food vendors visit us all at Papa Robbs.

Starting this week we will host food vendors - carts, trucks, trailers - who will offer various types of food, from hotdogs to gourmet sandwiches. But let's be honest about this. These vendors are the essence of "shop local". The basic All American of start up businesses, but the investment cost is sizable. Like all businesses, if profits aren't made such businesses move on or fail.

So this is - from Papa Robb - a polite way of asking you to support these area small businesses. They are truly your neighbors. We have had many requests for food vendors so they are coming. Again, let's give them some support & they will return & others will join them.  It is really as simple as that.

The same goes for other guests such as Tripp The Clown, Balloon Artists, etc. These people really took a hard hit last year & many are "Buskers" working for tips.

Papa Robbs is also a mobile vendor. We are at Frank Liske Park every weekend & can be found at all sorts of events around the area.

We are all part of the local economy. Shop Local is more than a slogan. It is a way of life for many & is important to our community.

We appreciate your business - thanks for listening.

BLOG -- NEW HOURS NEW PLANS --  5/29/21

We have some big news, but first we all need to give a huge vote of thanks. Obviously we at Papa Robbs have a big Thank You to our friends & customers. You have actually become a family over the past several years & really showed your faith last year.

This year has been  a strong & successful start, both at our store & our mobile sales/catering department. For that we are very grateful. We believe that we are not totally "out of the woods" yet, but from every indication we are well on our way. We still encourage you to remember those masks & most important - GET THAT SHOT! Hundreds if not thousands of people around the world worked very hard & set what seems to be a record in developing a vaccine. Let's use it.

Now we are happy to announce a change of hours & days of operation as we return to our schedule of the past. On Monday June 7 we return to seven days a week. Our expanded hours will be:  Sunday through Thursday, 11:00am until 9:00pm. Friday & Saturday, 11:00am until 10:00pm. Other plans include:

Some entertainment will return: music, Tripp The Clown, face painting, etc. Some yard games will return &  some food offerings will also return. We also hope to develop a Marketplace that will feature kids events, crafts & a vending market. As this grows we hope to add a small farmers' market.

So please keep an eye on all of our social media sites for updates  & remember we always need your ideas. Our "Flip Flop Hut" is an example. Slowly more flip flops are appearing & we hope you get a kick out of another bright spot at Papa Robbs.

Thank you again & we hope to see you again soon.

BLOG --  Good start,  May 16,  2021

Well hello again everyone. Thought we would give it a few weeks then report in. So here's your report!

Thank YOU, thank YOU for the best kick off in years. It has been a super start to our year & we owe it all to you - our family, friends, customers - everyone in this area. And we are just beginning - more on that later.

We do have to remind you that we still have rules, so keep making us proud. We are well know as an inclusive place that is a safe & fun facility for families. We are really one of a kind for this area & yes, we still pretend we are a "shack on the beach".

Now about one very important rule - MASKS. Over the past few days this has been very confusing to a lot of folks, but when it comes to Papa Robbs there is no confusion. We wear masks & we ENCOURAGE you to wear them too at Papa Robbs. Why?  Simply because no one seems to be sure about this subject & it keeps changing. So - better safe than sorry.

Papa Robb has had both shots now yet he still wears his mask. When asked why he explains:  I have a drivers license too but I still fasten my seat belt. So let's all remain a little patient for a little longer. Why not. Should be easy now since we've had this practice.

Now back to the future -- our operation days & hours will change soon so get ready for some summer fun. Entertainment will return for both kids & adults. Tripp The Clown will be back next month as will other activities.

FOOD?  Yes we have had requests so we will give our food truck friends another chance, but you must realize their success depends on your support. Watch all details in our blogs, texts & social media platforms.

Gotta run for now, but one more note - watch for our mobile sales force - Papa On The Go. We are at Frank Liske Park every weekend so join us there as well as at our store.

Now -- TAKE THE SHOT!

 SAFETY, SAFETY, MORE SAFETY

Our Opening Day is approaching - Thursday, March 25, 11:00 am till 8:00 pm. It might very well have a wet opening, but rain or shine we are on. Keep a close watch on all of our social media for all the latest updates.

From the earliest days Papa Robb's Paradise Ice was designed to resemble a vacation shack on the beach. Much more important, it was designed as an inclusive - very inclusive - place. Everyone, & we mean everyone, is welcome. A lot of things have changed in our world, but our policy has not changed.

The world may have its rules & regulations, but Papa Robbs has its own set of regulations. Behavior & safety are the basis for Papa's Rules. We have been & remain the place where all people can bring their families - their children - and feel safe. Not bullies, no bullets, no bigots. Your children are safe with us.

We are excited about having you back. The old place has been spruced up, cleaned up, some new paint. Not only can you now sit down, but our playground has been cleaned & sanitized. So come & have a good time seeing old friends & making new ones.

While we have several ideas about special events, co-ops, etc for this year, we have two such specials from the very start. On Friday, March 26 our friends at the Sojourney Church will host a Happy Hour(s) at Papa Robbs. From 4:00 pm until our 8:00 pm closing there will be a $1.00 - one dollar - discount per item on all of our products. An extra reason to be Happy!

On  Saturday, March 27, our neighbors at Eva Drive Baptist Church will join us & host their annual Easter Party. Games, surprises & free hotdogs for all. This is open to the public. Other events will soon begin to happen so again, keep reading blogs & checking our web site, facebook, etc.

Meanwhile, you please be safe. And DO NOT FORGET your masks. Last - we know you have ideas, so keep sending them to us - please.

BLOG -- 2021 -- BLOG OF 3/7/21

Well, well, well -- We're back & very happy & excited about 2021. So, let's get to it.

There is so much news that we must break it into a few blogs. It is VERY IMPORTANT to read our blogs, posts, etc as promise to do better with our communications this year. Social Media posts, texting, blogs, etc will be better & more frequent.

Let's begin with a huge THANK YOU. Papa Robbs survived last year because so many of you supported us through a challenging year for us all. In spite of limitations & restrictions you came & supported us.
Churches were helpful also as were businesses that hosted important but innovative social events -- Drive In Socials is a fine example. So again - thank you to everyone. Now to this year:

OPENING - weather permitting we will open on Thursday, March 25 at 11:00 am. We will be open every day except Mondays from 1:00 am to 8:00 pm.  About May first these hours & days will change & expand.

YES there will be seating & you will notice a few changes but we feel our seating choices will be safe. New ground covers, mulch, etc - all cleaned, painted & sanitized.

PLAYGROUND will be open. Cleaned & professionally sanitized.

GENERAL REGULATIONS, known far & wide as "Papa's Rules" are still in force. There have always meant simply as good manners & behavior. Be kind as we are all family at Papas. Remember your masks, masks & masks.

Watch for more news to come & we will see you soon.

BLOG --  Second half of season - Aug. 1, 2020

Our season is now half over & it has been a challenge for Papa Robbs as it has for businesses , especially small locally owned businesses, across the country. Many will not survive, but are determined & we are very fortunate. We have a good product, good corporate partners/suppliers, a super staff & we have you - our friends & customers.

Since some of this blog will not be what you want to hear let us begin by saying how much we appreciate your support & loyalty. Change & adjustment is never easy & we have all had to live with change this year. But if we stay the course, do the right thing & support each other then this too will pass. It will not be as soon as we would like & to be honest, things will never be quite like they were before. With that in mind let's get to the latest news, updates & plans.

No matter what you hear otherwise, the Covid-19 virus is real, dangerous & will be with us for a while longer. We hope & pray for better days, smarter treatments & a vaccine that works. Until then we must make smart decisions & truly believe that we are all in this together. Your continued understanding, patience & support are needed now more than ever.. Please note the following:

SAFETY -- Paramount; most important; basis for every decision we make. The safety of you, your family & for our staff. We also happen to believe in facts, numbers, statistics & science. We heed the advice of our doctors, the CDC & our local health alliance.

PLAYGROUND -- Our playground is closed & will remain closed for the rest of this year. Public playgrounds are closed & we are considered public. It is the law & it is smart policy. Before it does re open there are repairs that need to be made & it will be clean & professionally disinfected.

SEATING & RESTROOMS -- Also closed for the foreseeable future. Simply too dangerous & very hard to control. We do not have the staff size. Plus the kids will not understand why they can not play on the playground, etc. Not fair is it?   We do allow tailgating with your family & we appreciate your help with keeping our property neat & clean.

That's it. We know it not the most pleasant of news but it is the facts. We want things different too, but we want everyone safe - SAFE SAFE SAFE. So be patient & remember that we need, welcome & appreciate your support.

Thank You,       Papa Robb

BLOG - June 25, 2020 - seating, hours, etc.
Recently we have seen an increase in our customers asking about seating. We have said several times that Papa Robbs operates on its own phases & deadlines. While we attempt to base our decisions on current news about the Covid-19 Virus we realize that we have our own particular situations - party center, playground, large control area, etc. Also once again - our priority is SAFETY, for our customers & our staff. So please note the following:

We will continue keeping the party center & the playground closed - maybe for the rest of this year. We will also continue to restrict all seating - no seating allowed. Tailgating is still allowed but we urge social distancing.
North Carolina now has a mask mandate. Obviously you can't eat while wearing a mask, but we also urge you to wear a mask while waiting to order. Let us ALL WORK TOGETHER to keep each other safe.

We recently received an email from Kannapolis noting new case numbers that were over 250, plus North Carolina has now joined the alarmingly number of states with spikes in cases.  Therefore we will keep our regulations in place for the time being.

We will however make a small but important change in our hours of operation: starting the weekend of July 4 we will open 7 days a week from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm, giving some extra time in the evening after work.
We know that this news is not what we all hoped for, but neither is this entire year & situation. Let us all remain patient & polite with each other & remember that eventually this too shall pass.

BLOG -- May 23,  2020  --  Latest news

HELLO AGAIN --  We have now been open three weeks & still in Phase 1 of Papa's  opening rules. As always it is all about safety, safety, safety. Again we want to thank everyone for being very cooperative & very supportive of each other. That is the way it has always been at Papa Robbs & we expect that attitude to continue now & way beyond this virus.

This is how things stand at this time: Phase 1 will last until mid to late June. Take out only. At that time , if all goes well & depending on the overall breakout situation in our area, we should be able to open up some limited seating with the social distancing requirements in place.

The playground will remain closed - probably through the summer at least. Very difficult to separate kids once they start playing. Besides, all playgrounds are still closed in NC.

Same with the party center - closed till further notice.

NOW -- another reminder about our special shakes. The Creamsicle Shake reminds us of the old Orange Creamsicle bars. Plus we now have both SunDrop & Cheerwine Italian Ice, so come try something new.

TAILGATING: Yes it is allowed, but social distancing is important for non family members. Be creative & yes you can bring your own take out lunch.

Thanks again for your help, patience & understanding.----------------

BLOG --  Opening Report --  May 7, 2020

What's next you may ask? But let's begin with news of our first week of the season. We've been open for less than a week & we are happy to report that things went well; actually better than expected. This of course was because of you.

Everyone was VERY cooperative, with us & each other. Then again you guys are always cooperative & nice. And that's what makes Papa Robbs Papa Robbs. Now, you are already asking:  "What's next"? Simply put - more of the same.

We see & hear the same news as you: about Opening Up. States, counties, cities, towns & some businesses. In our opinion opening too fast, too much & too soon. We simply have most faith in science & medicine. We want to be wide open again for sure, not at the risk to our staff & you - our customer/friends.

SAFETY -- SAFETY -- SAFETY.  Tha't the name of this game. This virus is not going away as soon as some people think - so why take the risk? Besides, ole Papa Robb had a timetable of his  own. Call it Papa's 4 Phases. We just opened so we are going to stick with our plan & we will try to open in baby steps. Our first phase  was due to last about a month & that is still the plan.

We want to thank all of you again for your great good manners. Papa's Grandmother would approve. Keep watching our social media as we try to do 2 or 3 posts a week & will soon begin our texting program for the year. Some surprises are on the way & a few door prizes to boot.

Before we go - check our menu at our web site as we have a few new items & last year's special Brownie Sundae has become a regular item. Another hint: our Papa's Faves shakes are going fast so come get a taste.

We'll talk again soon.

BLOG --- PRE OPENING

READY, SET, GO! -- Hello again. This might be our final blog before we open Apil 30. Our schedule is pretty tight as we also have our mobile department up & running so we are getting busier every day.

This blog will be more of a list of important things to know, so let's get to it:

1. As we noted in our last blog, safety is very important, thus all of our regular regulations will be in effect plus a few more. We ask that we all

practice respect & patience.
2. We will do social distancing with tape markings. There will be separate areas for entrance & exit marked with signage. You will see more hats,

gloves & masks with entrance to our work area restricted to on duty employees only - no more visits allowed by friends, family members or off

duty employees.
3. All orders will be Carry Out/To Go only - no seating will be available. For the time being we will allow you to enjoy your treat in your vehicle if

you so choose.
4. Over the past several weeks we have discussed plans with our friendly competitors, health care workers, our doctors & other officials & will

follow guidlines set out by the CDC.
5. Again - this is all for your protection.
6. All is not so drab however: Papa Robb's will be as bright & inviting as we can make it. Music will be there somewhere. Plus we have some

exciting flavors & products. Both SunDrop & Cheerwine Italian Ice (while they last). Some ice cream flavors such as the return of Banana Pudding,

a new Birthday Cake, Cherry Vanilla & Crazy Vanilla. Other specials will show up over the season.
7. Papa has some new Faves & they are interesting: We now offer a Cheerwine Shake, A Lemonade Shake & an Orange Creamsicle Shake.

Give em all a try.
8. Food rumors are true. Sometime in May we plan to offer  some food choices. These are at YOUR requests so remember they will need your

support to keep serving. Hot Dogs, Burgers, Bar B Que are among our plans.
9. We are excited & look forward to seeing you again, so mark your calendars, tell your friends & we see you again starting Thursday, April 30,

11:00 am - 7:00 pm
10. Thanks again for your support & please Be Safe

OPENING DATE SET FOR APRIL 30

Well everybody it looks like the time has arrived. We plan to open for the year on Thursday, April 30. Hours will be 11:00 am till 7:00 pm, Tuesday - Sunday. Closed on Mondays.

Our plan is to do three short blogs with info about our plans, details, rules, etc.. Very important that you read these blogs & share them with as many people as possible.

Over the past several weeks we have been fortunate to have been able to meet with many people & discuss our options & plans. Customers, health care professionals, other similar businesses, even a doctor or two. We feel our plans are good, reasonable, but open for changes along the way. So -----

SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY: You will notice some changes right away. Open for take out orders to go ONLY. You can walk up & order from our window or order by email or text (info on these methods coming in regular posts & blog). All of our seating areas, tables, etc have been taped/roped off as has our playground. NO SEATING available.

We will offer our full menu - this has changed also with some new flavors of ice cream & specials plus we new offer (while supplies last) both SunDrop & Cheerwine Italian Ice! Watch for other specials to come.

Rules are more important than ever. Social Distancing will be followed. Patience is very important. In other words - simply behave like the great Papa Robbs customers you have always been. Papa Robbs has always been different. It is truly a place for families , but also a "Family Place". This is a place where everyone is welcome - we consider us all -- customers & staff alike - are like a family. Thank you for that feeling.

For now please mark your calendars: Thursday, April 30 , 11 - 7, Pray for reasonable weather.  We look forward to seeing you again.

WATCH OUR SOCIAL MEDIA & BLOGS FOR MORE EXCITING DETAILS.

BLOG -- OPENING DELAYED                             April, 2020

Warning: this may seem like all bad news, but it is not. We like to put a positive outlook on most things, & as difficult as these times are in many ways they are bringing most of us closer together.

By our post you know we are delaying our opening this year. We do not know how long this delay may be -- and it may be piece meal. For instance, our mobile units may be up & running very soon.

The reason for this delay varies. From our end we simply ran out of time. We are bright, cheery & as clean as we can be (except of this pollen). But other businesses face the same challenges we do so we are short on info signs, banners, etc.  These are all very important to the overall goal of safety & convenience.

Our `delivery options are not in place on the scale they should be - same for curbside & ordering options.  The majors (Grubhub, Doordash, Ubereats) are under siege, busier than ever & backlogged. They are working as quickly as possible & we respect their situations.

Our employees & family members have their own challenges. Even this allergy season seems worse. Our vehicles turn yellow overnight!

Please be patient. We are not going anywhere. If others are open please visit them for they too are trying to save their businesses. And we will see you as soon as we can.

Again, Thank You & please be safe.

BLOG --  OPENING DAY & BEYOND -- MARCH 29, 2020

Hello again. We're a few days late with this blog, but there were  many decisions to be made plus we knew there would be changes & new situations for our state & our community. Yes we are all urged to shelter in place as much as possible, but there are also allowances to this. So - let's get to it:

This one of those good news, bad news deals. Obviously we all are facing a great challenge. We urge all of you to be patient, be kind & always remember that we all have the same concerns. We will attempt here to do this in list form. But we do urge you to stay involved & check our social media as often as possible. Remember that we have the Papa Robb's Club - sign up today & receive a weekly text message update on specials & any changes & adjustments we make as we go forward..

Therefore please note the following:

1. We will open our store on Thursday, April 2. Open six days a week, closed Mondays. Our hours (subject to change) will be 11:00 am until 7:00 pm
2. There are several new regulations & restrictions as follows:  No seating available - all orders are take out "To Go". The playground & the party center are closed. As all of you know Papa Robbs has always had some rules about behavior. These are now more important than ever. Simply put - good manners & respect for your neighbors. After all, we are known as THE family place.
3. We will offer you SEVERAL WAYS TO ORDER & GET YOUR TREATS. Some available from opening  day, others will take longer & be phased in. So pay attention as even old Papa Robb gets confused:  You can simply show up & order from our serving window. You can pull into our parking lot & order & we will deliver to your car (credit & debit card orders, plus other electronic options with this option).

We are working on other ordering methods such as emailing or texting your orders. Hopefully ready by April 2 or within a few days. There MIGHT be a new phone number for those orders but not settled as of today - depends on equipment.

FOOD DELIVERY SERVICES: We are in the process of arranging agreements, contracts, etc with food delivery companies. Naturally they are flooded with requests so this may take some time, but not much. Options will be:  GRUBHUB; DOORDASH; UBEREATS. You will be able to order directly through their apps or through our social media linking to their apps. We are also exploring some options with our relationship with THE SQUARE.

Obviously we are learning a lot as we go. Fortunately we have some experience with TO GO orders. But some things do not change. Yes our prices have changed for this year, but there are no "special " menu prices for take out - including through outside businesses. Everyone pays the same basic price.
